Academic Testing Procedures

Please note that the GDL is not open 24hrs a day, and it is the student's responsibility to complete tests during GDL hours and by professor-set deadlines. Tests are not distributed during the last thirty minutes the GDL is open. For exceptions to these rules, the GDL must receive prior notification from the professor requesting such. In other words, deviation of policy must be pre-arranged.

Quizzes and tests are distributed by the GDL specialist on duty and may be picked up in the GDL support center, CGL 135. If a specialist is unavailable when you arrive:

  • Check the door of CGL 135 for a specialist's location.
  • Look for Professor Kuettner in CGL 138.
  • Wait 15 minutes for a specialist to return. If a specialist has not returned, email Professor Kuettner at KuettnerD@wlu.edu

All students must sign-in with a GDL specialist before taking a physical, virtual, or hybrid exam. Be prepared to give your name, professor, and course with section number when signing out an assessment.

Testing materials should be returned to the GDL specialist once completed.  You must return your exam DURING GDL HOURS. The specialist will record this submission at an electronic station. In the event of missing testing materials or other possible problems, this written record will be extremely important.

No quiz or test may leave the Global Discovery Laboratories area unless a faculty member has made PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS with the student and informed the GDL in writing.

All quizzes and tests must be turned in to the GDL specialist at the time of closing, unless a faculty member has given prior written notification to the GDL explaining the circumstances for the exemption.

The GDL adheres to guidelines of the Washington and Lee University Honor System. The GDL will report any violations to the Executive Committee.
